Do turtles outgrow their shells?
Verdict: Myth
A turtle's shell is made of living bone covered by keratin scutes. It grows with the turtle through new keratin formation at the edges and overall bone growth. Shell deformities often indicate poor nutrition or habitat conditions during growth.
